OUR SILENT LIFESAVERS

If you feel that there is nothing you can do help fight against global warming you are mistaken.
Plant a tree
Trees breathe in the CO2 (carbon dioxide) that is warming the planet through their leaves. They also breathe in our biological waste - CO2 - after we and other animals exhale it.
Trees then exhale priceless oxygen as their own waste into the atmosphere.
Oxygen cools the planet.
CO2 is warming it.
But this is the least important function of trees.
A single rainforest tree will draw 3 million gallons of water through its roots and release it into the atmosphere during its lifetime.
This is close to the size of a one square kilometer lake.
This is the first step in a complex cycle that prevents land from becoming desert
Keeps the soil fertile
Balances the eco system
Provides fresh water
And cools the atmosphere.
Because trees of the rainforests have such a massively larger leaf area than common trees, the rainforests of the world provide most of the oxygen you are breathing as you read this.
Humans are destroying the world's rainforests at the size of the state of Florida every year.
In school we are taught that the oceans and the forests are the chief sources of oxygen on the planet.
It turns out that this statistic is wrong.
The oceans account for less than 8% of the atmospheres oxygen, and that is dropping rapidly.
Due to the dumping of toxic wastes and the death of coral reefs, the oceans are becoming warmer and therefore also another - consumer - of oxygen.
So these silent beings - our friends the trees - are now our major source of oxygen.
They are our planets lungs.

There is the true story of an old shepherd who single handedly with his walking stick, re-forested the wasteland of Provence in France and completely changed the eco system of the entire area.
All he did was poke holes in the ground with his cane and plant trees as the sheep were grazing every day.
Today Provence is one of the most beautiful regions of France, all because of one old man with a limp.
Presently there are almost 7 billion people on the planet.
Consider the amount of oxygen that would be created if each were to plant a tree.
Remember; trees with larger leaves give off more oxygen than those with smaller leaves.
Happy planting
